Today was really incredibly hot. Getting out of the car my glasses instantly fogged up.
Today's goal was Usuki, located in the mountains. Usuki is tiny, and very rural. The Buddhas are really the only claim to fame. They're ancient, and have been carefully restored, the cracks in the mountains from which they were carved have been filled to support them. There are four clusters, whole galleries of buddha, some as high as 5 meters tall.

Black stone beach
Seaweed drying on the beach

On this rather beautiful day I had took a trip down the coast to Saganoseki. We bought lunch at a conbini and ate on the beach.
We paused at two beaches. One was black stone, and one was white.
On the black beach, they were drying seaweed. I don't know the name of this particular seaweed, but I'm told it's a local delicacy.
After that we drove through the tiny little town from whence the ferry departs for Shikoku. Though everyone was going home, we stopped at the local temple to pay our respects and take pictures. It turned out to be a Wisteria Festival that we had missed.
